DeFelsko PosiTest HHD

High voltage Holiday Detector

This is the high voltage big brother to the PosiTest LPD, with a wide range of rolling spring and flat wire brush electrodes.

Ergonomics was critical to the success of the project, as the act of pulling the rolling spring would require two gloved hands, and the wire brush electrode would require an extended reach. Components include a large battery.

A lot of models were made up to test the ergonomics. The final dimensions reflect the results.

This is larger than the rest of DeFelsko’s product line. The initial instincts were to keep the device as small as possible, for the sake of tooling, material cost, shipping, etc., but the combination of ergonomics and component size forced an acceptance that this was the size it would have to be.

The display was again a two-dimensional cut through the curved housing, but here we used a three-dimensional foam keypad which continued the form of the main housing. The graphic layout followed the variable outline and round button appearance established on the LPD.

Color is a primary identifier of electronic tool manufacturers. The use of overmolding a rubber handgrip provided the opportunity to test alternative color combinations. Ultimately, overmolding was not used, and the established gray with yellow detailing was used. The grip areas were defined by contrasting textures.

Easy battery replacement was essential.

Mounting points for a carrying strap were included.

The connector was mounted to avoid interference in operation.
